Make Me The Tennessee examines what happens when those in power ignore the deadly outcome of domestic abuse through an in-depth look at one woman’s need for revenge. In researching the film I interviewed multiple victims of domestic violence. I was shaken to discover that their cries for help were consistently ignored by their communities. As a whole, they condemned their abusers, but their blame also extended to the people that knew their abuse was occurring and did nothing to stop it. One victim spoke of the heartbreak that came with knowing her friends still spoke to her abuser, that they ignored his treatment of her in favor of ignorance. This apathetic response to injustice and violence became the core exploration of my film and drove my need to see the project through to its completion.
